WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Kris Fitzgerald found his groove early in quarantine. But he had to hit his floor before he could push himself back up.
“So that first week I really felt lost and unable to function really,” Fitzgerald said.
After feeling derailed, the West Hollywood native found the way to get back on track began with fitness.
“I started to get out of that and I knew that I had to get back into my routine however I was going to do that.”
Thanks to some inexpensive online exercise equipment, he transformed the hallway of his West Hollywood home into his own gym over the past six weeks. After that, the rest of his days fell into place.
He wakes up on time, walks the dog, and goes "to the gym."
Fitzgerald says he has normalized his routine, just in a different way.
Over the past couple of weeks he’s grown out of his initial anxiety and learned some things about himself.
And when things do start to reopen, he plans on keeping his homemade gym in full service, because it dawned on him that he doesn’t have to go somewhere else to take care of his health.
Even in navigating his new space, Fitzgerald learned there was still an opportunity to push himself to evolve.
“We’re not stopping, we’re continuing, just maybe in a different way,” he said.
In adapting to his new normal, Fitzgerald has grown physically and mentally stronger.
