COMPTON, Calif. — A state rich in diversity, California, can trace much of its Hispanic culture to its origin.

During the Mexican American War, the U.S. got what is now California, but the historical traces of those times are still all around us.

To keep the history alive, the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum puts together an annual re-enactment of the Battle of Dominguez Hills.

Nearly 177 years ago, the battle was a Mexican victory in the war and was fought on Rancho Dominguez, on the same grounds the reenactment happens.

The event is free to the public and takes place Saturday, Oct. 7 starting at 10 a.m.

There will be two reenactment times, along with food vendors, and activities throughout the day.
