IRVINE, Calif. — It's not easy to become one of the top high school football players in Southern California.

Over the years, the region has become synonymous with producing some of the country's best talent — becoming a recruiting hotbed for division one football programs across the United States.

However, at Mater Dei High School, there is never a shortage of talent walking across their field, and this year is no different. Junior wide receiver CJ Williams is the state's third-ranked wideout in the class of 2022. He's also a top-50 recruit nationwide, boasting over 50 college offers to his name.

While Williams has all the makeup of a natural-born wide receiver — with a strong, athletic frame, short-area quickness, and strength — he's as equally determined as he is talented. In addition to daily high school practices, Williams commits himself to training outside of school and often spends his early mornings at Saddleback Strength and Fitness.

Spectrum News 1's Kristen Lago went down to Irvine to find out what his training is all about, bringing you an inside look at a workout in the life of a top-tier high school athlete.
