MILWAUKEE — Amid the sudden death of District 3 Ald. Jonathan Brostoff, Milwaukee will hold a special election to fill his seat April 1, 2025.

It’s the same date as Wisconsin's spring election.

In the event there are more than two candidates for the position, a primary will be held Feb. 18, 2025. This is also the same date as the regular spring primary.

The winner of this special election will serve for the remainder of Brostoff’s term, which runs through April 17, 2028.

It will be the only city council seat on the ballot for the spring, according to the city’s website.

Nomination papers can begin being circulated Dec. 1, 2024. The deadline to submit nomination papers to the City of Milwaukee Election Commission is Jan. 7, 2025 at 5 p.m.
