WORCESTER, Mass. - Multiple first responder groups came together for a common cause at the Worcester Ice Center on Sunday for "Skate to Remember the Worcester 6."
Teams included the Worcester Fire Department, the Boston Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police, the Taunton Fire Department and the New York City Fire Department.
The action on the ice was competitive and certainly planted the seed for some rivalries if the teams square off in the future.
Tickets were $10, and money raised will go towards the annual Worcester Firefighters 6K.
This was a special event organized with the Leary Firefighters Foundation to mark 25 years since the city lost Paul Brotherton, Timothy Jackson, Jeremiah Lucey, James Lyons, Joseph McGuirk and Thomas Spencer in the 1999 Worcester Cold Storage Fire.
Peter Fabrycki of the Worcester Fire Department hopes to see the event continue down the line.
“To see guys and teams come from all over the place that still remember to come pay their respects and help us raise money in remembrance of those guys, it’s really nice,” Fabrycki said.
The Worcester Firefighters 6K takes place every summer and benefits NEADS World Class Service Dogs, Genesis Club and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
