WORCESTER, Mass.  - Castan Sommer is coming back to Central Massachusetts.

Sommer is returning to this alma mater at the College of the Holy Cross as an Assistant Coach.

Sommer had tremendous success playing high school hockey at Shrewsbury High, leading the Colonials to a State Championship win in 2009. Sommers lead Shrewsbury in scoring during all three years he played on varsity. 

For the last four years  Sommer has been an Assistant Coach with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League.  His father, Roy Sommer, is the Head Coach of the San Jose Barricudas of the AHL, The San Jose Sharks affiliate, and was the head coach of the Worcester ​Sharks the entire time they were in the city.  Roy Sommer owns the record for most games coached in AHL history.

Sommer joins Westboro native and new Holy Cross head coach Bill Riga's staff. Riga was a longtime assistant at Quinnipiac University.
