Taylor Popielarz is an Emmy-nominated reporter in the Spectrum News Washington, D.C., bureau covering regional and national politics with a focus on Ohio. His reporting has taken him from Capitol Hill to the White House to more than a dozen states and Europe.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Taylor graduated from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut with a B.A. in Journalism. He interned in New York City with the NBC News Investigative Unit, the ABC News assignment desk, and Fox 5's Good Day New York. After graduation, he worked as a reporter for ABC57 in South Bend, Ind., where he specialized in political coverage, including Mayor Pete Buttigieg and his campaign for chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Gov. Mike Pence's ascension to vice president, the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, and Donald Trump's inauguration.
As a Spectrum News reporter based in Washington, Taylor has covered President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the House Jan. 6 Committee hearings, two presidential impeachments, the Jan. 6th Capitol attack and Biden’s visit to Belgium and Poland shortly after Russia launched its war on Ukraine. Taylor also has served as pool reporter for two of Vice President Kamala Harris’s trips to Ohio, reported from Biden’s campaign headquarters in Delaware in the week before the 2020 election, and covered presidential primary debates in Ohio and Michigan.
Taylor has also made 20 reporting trips to Ohio since joining Spectrum News, logging thousands of miles while visiting every corner of the state. He extensively covered the 2022 Ohio U.S. Senate race and was the only reporter to follow Sen. Sherrod Brown on every leg of his five-state listening tour as he weighed running for president in 2019. On a daily basis, Taylor also tracks Ohio's 17 members of Congress.
Staying true to his Jersey roots, Taylor will never turn down pizza, bagels, or donuts.
