This time of the year is lovely. It's the weather where you may need a jacket in the morning and then shorts by the afternoon as the temperature teeter-totter while the seasons play tug-o-war.

What You Need To Know

  • Highs rarely hit the 90s in Wisconsin after October 1

  • We do see highs in the 80s but it is less likely by Halloween

  • It's only a matter of time before we consider the 60s "warm"

Right on cue, we got a big taste of fall across the state last week. Some areas had frost!

However, that doesn’t mean we are done sweating it out this year.

Historically, it can still get very warm during the month of October. That said, seeing highs in the 90s is as rare as a Wisconsinite in a Bears jersey.

While 90s may not happen often, temperatures climbing into the 80s is a little more common.

There is a large difference between 80 degrees and 89 degrees. Let’s break the 80s down a little bit more.

Clearly the “hotter” days tend to occur earlier in the month as opposed to the end.

As we peek ahead into October, recent trends suggest we are in for at least one rather warm stretch of weather. This will most likely happen before the middle part of the month.

At this point, it’s impossible to say if we’ll be in the 80s or not. However, I would not be surprised given how warm it was this summer.

Once we creep closer to Halloween, the game starts to change and our warm days will definitely be numbered. Highs above 80 degrees are next to impossible after November 1. It’s never happened at any of the major reporting sites. Records go back to the 1800s.

We only have a few weeks left before it’s time to pack up the shorts and sandals so enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.

Happy fall, y’all!
