HONOLULU — As he looked around the Les Murakami Stadium stands following another sellout night, after another explosive offensive performance by the Hawaii baseball team, Ben Zeigler-Namoa considered a question about his future.

“You’ll be seeing me around,” he finally said with a smile.

The first baseman contributed a two-run double in UH’s 10-5 win over Long Beach State in front of 3,238 (4,645 tickets issued) on Friday night. UH (22-6, 9-4 Big West) remained in third place in the conference with their 10th win in 11 games.

Up and down the lineup, the ‘Bows keep producing. They matched their season high of 17 hits and scored nine-plus runs for the sixth straight game, the program’s longest such streak since 1987.

The Lahaina native Zeigler-Namoa was named a Cape Cod League All-Star heading into his third year with the program, technically his senior season. But because of a new NCAA precedent for eligibility for players who spent time at junior colleges, Zeigler-Namoa, who played at Yavapai College (Ariz.) as a freshman, might be able to return for one more year.

After Friday’s game, UH coach Rich Hill said he’d love to have Zeigler-Namoa back for one more go-around, with a caveat.

“Oh, absolutely,” Hill said. “I mean, would love Ben to start a master's degree here, and be a team captain. I don't name team captains, but I will with him; I think I've named about three or four of my entire 38-year career, and he's earned that right.

“But I really want Ben to get drafted and I got to put my head-coaching hat kind of aside and look at Ben like, I love him and I want him to get drafted, and that's the first priority for us in him.”

Zeigler-Namoa’s double to center made it 3-1 UH in the third inning. But the Dirtbags (10-19, 4-9) tied the game at 4-4 on Armando Briseno’s bases-clearing double in the fourth.

UH got the go-ahead hit from Matthew Miura in the fifth and Draven Nushida broke it open with a two-run single to right in the eighth.

“There’s no flinching. … We want it a lot more than a lot of teams,” said Zeigler-Namoa, who was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Sebastian Gonzalez threw 2 2/3 innings of relief of Itsuki Takemoto to pick up the win and Isaiah Magdaleno worked the last 2 2/3 innings for his fifth save of the season.

“We'll give him a day off at some point,” Hill said of Magdaleno. “Who knows when that'll be, but he's a big, strong kid and wants the ball.”

UH got three-hit games from Jared Quandt, Nushida and Kedren Kinzie. Kamana Nahaku, who was named the Golden Spikes National Player of the Week after his massive series against Cal State Northridge last weekend, went 2-for-3 with two walks.

The Rainbows finished the night with their 1 through 8 hitters holding season batting averages of .333 or better. The only offensive weak spot has been at catcher, where Hunter Faildo, Konnor Palmeira and David Vergel de Dios have platooned and all are hitting below .200.

“With our nine-hole guys, until Hunter and Connor and David come around, we got some really good lefties and righties off the bench when we get to an RBI situation,” Hill said. “Big hit by Jack Salmon (who got on via a hard-hit ball that was ruled an error) to extend the lead. So everybody's contributing.”

The teams play Game 2 of the series at 6:35 p.m. Saturday. It is the fifth straight home Saturday game that UH has sold out.
