MILWAUKEE— Bud Selig is still very interested in the Milwaukee Brewers and Major League Baseball, but the day-to-day pressures and responsibilities of being MLB Commissioner are no longer there. In a 1-on-1 interview with Dennis Krause, Selig discussed his life now and missing his good friend, Henry Aaron, who passed away last year.

Dennis: Does teaching keep you busy?

Bud: I teach on Tuesdays at the University of Wisconsin, Wednesdays at Marquette University and Fridays at Arizona State University. I like it. I love my students. We have conversations pretty similar to this. Anecdotal stuff. I try to work in all the facts that I know. The interesting part for me is that, as a history professor, which I wanted to be when I was a kid in college, the students always ask me ‘how did you go from being that to what happened?’ Well, that’s a long story, but I really enjoy it. I love the students. I'm back in class again with them and it's just a wonderful experience, and it's keeping me young.

Dennis: You were so close to Hank Aaron. How often do you think of him?

Bud:  A lot. I’ve talked to Billye Aaron quite a bit, his wife. You know it was really sad. He and I would have at least two to three conversations a week. Sometimes just joking a lot, laughing otherwise. Talking about baseball, life, our families. The day he passed, I had just gotten my first shot. I was so happy, 9:00 in the morning in Milwaukee and I was going back to Phoenix. My cell phone rings. I was here…actually right here. And it was his assistant, who I've been talking to for 40 years, and I said, ‘Hi, how are you?’ and I should have realized then. All she said in a voice ‘Your friend just died.’ And I just talked to him on the day before. Our relationship was really close and I miss him a lot.
