GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Rodgers and the top five receivers were again absent as the Packers held an open organized team activities practice on Wednesday in Green Bay.

With Rodgers not on hand, second year quarterback Jordan Love is getting plenty of work.

“I think he’s really attacking it the right way," said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. "The focus is there, the work ethic, and he’s grinding away and trying to get a little bit better each and every day.”

Running back AJ Dillon added, “He’s gotten reps this year that he really didn’t have last year, especially with the one’s. You can see him get more comfortable."

Offensive tackle David Bakhtiari did some work on the side as he continues his rehab from a major knee injury.

“I think he’s a little bit ahead of schedule, but then again, there’s a long way until the start of the season," said LaFleur.  "We'll see where he’s at when it comes to that time. There’s a lot of people that are involved in that decision and David’s certainly one of them. I know that he’s a guy that loves to push himself and I know he’s chomping at the bit to be out there with his teammates, but ultimately sometimes you’ve got to protect these guys from themselves. I think that’s just the mentality that he has. That’s why he is the player that he is today. We’ll be smart about it.”

“The best thing that Dave does is, he raises the whole standard of the room, " said Packers guard Lucas Patrick. "Even at practice today, just communicating with us and giving us tips and pointers. He’s the best at his position.”

Bakhtiari was not made available to the media. Now the question is: will Rodgers attend next week's mandatory minicamp?

“We’d love him to be here and hopefully we’ll see him Tuesday," said LaFleur.

“Just speaking from a friend standpoint, I just miss one of my friends, just like I miss Allen and Davante," said tight end Robert Tonyan. "It is optional and I do wish that one of my favorite teammates and friends on the team was here.”

With Jamaal Williams gone to Detroit, Dillon raves about what the running back tandem of him and Aaron Jones can do.

“I think we can be the best running back tandem in the NFL. You look at us and you see thunder and lightning, which absolutely we are but the lightning guy Aaron, he can also grind out some yards. The thunder guy myself, I’d like to say I can still beat some guys running away from them. The entire running back room is capable guys that can do it all.”

With Rodgers not attending, Blake Bortles was on the practice field. The veteran has been signed as quarterback insurance along with Jordan Love.
