ST. LOUIS — More than $5.4 million in medical marijuana sales tax revenues generated from Missouri’s adult-use cannabis program will benefit three state organizations.

The funds were divided equally among the Missouri Veterans Commission (MVC), Missouri State Public Defender and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), each receiving $1,819,723, according to a press release.

MVC will use the money exclusively for health care and other services for military veterans and their families.

The funds that went to the Missouri State Public Defender organization will be used for legal assistance for low-income Missourians.

DHSS will use the money for grants toward access to evidence-based, low-barrier drug addiction treatment programs.

The transfer of funds to the three state organizations is part of House Bill 2010 and outlined in Article XIV, Section 2, of the Missouri Constitution.

The amount of transferred funds from the Missouri’s adult-use cannabis program for this fiscal year totals more than $50.6 million, according to the press release, which includes a transfer authorized by the Supplemental Budget, House Bill 14.495.
