MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Public Museum is gearing up for spring breakers. From new programing on insects to discounts on admission, they are ready for an influx of visitors.
“Spring break at the museum is a really busy time for us,” said Madeline Anderson, Director of Communications at the Milwaukee Public Museum. “Of course, we have a lot of kids in the area off school. So, this is a great place in the area to come with family.”
Anderson said people from all over visit over spring break.
“Not only do we have people from the Milwaukee area come here as kind of a staycation-type of vacation,” said Anderson. “We have a lot of out-of-towners that also come to the museum. People coming up from northern Illinois. A couple of years ago I talked to a man and his children who are actually visiting here from Chile. So, we get people from all over the world.”
Hannah Lukaszewicz with Getting Stamped is a Wisconsin travel agent. She said flights can be pricy over the spring break period.
“This year with Easter being so late, a lot of the schools are doing their spring breaks the last week of March and the first week of April,” Lukaszewicz said. “We have this rush of travelers trying to get out of down go for a warm up and there’s limited inventory left and flight prices if you would book right now are really high.”
She said if you’re looking to save money to book in advance, drive to your destination or consider traveling locally.
“I have a couple of friends that they drop little name of different towns and they go and pick it up. I’m from Waupun,” said Lukaszewicz. “They went to Waupun. They went and explored main street in Waupun. There’s coffee shops, there’s a new brewery and restaurant. Not going to a place not knowing what is there is also fun. It’s also money saving rather than going international.”
Both Lukaszewicz and Anderson said Wisconsin has a lot to offer.
“Whether it’s going to the Milwaukee Public Museum or going to another museum in the area, trying out some restaurants maybe downtown or in the suburb you’ve always wanted,” said Anderson. “This time of year, it’s a great time to remind ourselves we’re lucky to call Milwaukee home.”
