GREEN BAY, Wis. — Former longtime Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.

“I think I’ve been putting this off for two years,” Crosby said on his radio show, “The Mason Crosby Show.” “So today, I make my official announcement to retire from the NFL.”

Crosby had a career in the NFL for 17 years, spending 16 of those years with the Packers. He was selected as a sixth round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

“My 17 seasons in the NFL surpassed all of my childhood hopes and dreams,” Crosby said in a release. “I couldn’t be more grateful that 16 of those years were spent with the Packers. Being drafted in the 6th round of the 2007 draft, I could have never written the script of what my career was going to become."

Crosby became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, with 1,918 points. He had an 81.4% success rate while with the Packers, making 395 out of 485 field goal attempts.

He was with the Packers when they won Super Bowl XLV, when he converted all four extra point attempts.

He left the team after the 2022 season and was replaced with kicker Anders Carlson for the 2023 season. The Packers continued to have kicker troubles and ended up replacing Carlson in the following season, settling on kicker Brandon McManus in 2024.

“Football is the ultimate team game and I would not have played as long as I did without great teammates and support along the way. Thank you (his wife) Molly for holding it down for so long, you are my rock through it all. Thank you to my family for supporting me through youth sports, college and my pro career, it makes it all worth it when it's shared with family. To all my lifelong friends in Green Bay and throughout Wisconsin, our family is so grateful for the relationships formed over my 16 seasons in Green Bay,“ Crosby continued.

After he left the Packers, Crosby was briefly with the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad before he signed with the New York Giants later in the 2023 season. That was his last appearance in the NFL.

Crosby was the first player in NFL history to kick a 50-yard field goal and a game-winning field goal in under a minute left in his NFL debut.

“I always was so worried and fearful of retirement, of being done with something, being done with an end of a career, but… I’ve found things I’m chasing. I’ve found things I’m passionate,” Crosby said.
