MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University and University of Wisconsin men’s basketball teams faced off Saturday afternoon at Fiserv Forum for the annual I-94 rivalry matchup. Both teams were nationally ranked for the first time since 2011 in this game.

Marquette came out on top against UW with a final score of 88-74 — their first victory against their rivals since 2020.

Golden Eagles fan, Kevin Ingram, said, “when I’m at home, I wear Badgers pants, and I wear the Marquette top. That’s because we’re going to come out on top.”

This was the 131st matchup between the Badgers and the Golden Eagles and this year’s turnout shattered Fiserv Forum attendance records.

Over 18,000 fans packed the stadium, selling out the game.

It’s a fierce rivalry, typically with mutual respect, but hard-fought play.

“Family, friends… definitely. Just have a good time and hang out with fellow basketball fans,” said Badger’s fan, Cyndie Lapham.

Regardless of the outcome, Marquette fan, Steve Geib said, “it’s a win-win.”

Even though the Badgers fell to the Golden Eagles, Karen Gonzalez was proud of her boyfriend, #35 forward Markus Ilver.

“He’s a senior this year and is from Europe (Estonia),” said Gonzalez.

Whether a win or a loss, “everyone just has very good vibes, very high energy. It’s awesome,” she remarked.
