We made it until the end of November before being faced with our first impactful snow of the season across much of Wisconsin.

What to Know

  • Heaviest snow for the Thursday morning commute
  • Slippery stretches and low visibility possible
  • 1 to 3 inches of snow for much of eastern Wisconsin

Steadier and heavier snowfall is likely Thursday morning. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for much of eastern Wisconsin through midday Thursday.

Early Thursday morning, a burst of heavy, wet snow is expected across eastern Wisconsin. In addition to the falling snow, wind gusts up to 40mph will create additional issues with blowing snow, reducing visibility significantly on the roads at times. Slushy snow accumulation will also be possible on the roads, so watch for slippery spots and delays and plan to leave yourself plenty of extra time Thursday morning.

Temperatures will warm up through the morning, transitioning the snow to a rain/snow mix and then eventually all rain by Thursday afternoon. The rain continues into Thursday evening before wrapping up across the state.

Total snowfall amounts will range from a few flakes up to more than 3 inches across the state. The highest snowfall amounts will be measured across eastern Wisconsin with much lower amounts west. Any snow that falls will melt through the afternoon as temperatures warm up and rain continues to fall.

With how mild temperatures have been recently, it’s almost hard to believe that much of the state will see its first measurable snow of the season, but we are well past when we normally experience our first accumulating snowfall. Most cities across Wisconsin measure snow in early to mid November.
