MILWAUKEE — The long lines did not deter supporters who showed up to hear Vice President Kamala Harris speak in Milwaukee on Tuesday.
Diana Campagna was the very first in line. She got to Fiserv Forum at 7 a.m. That’s at least eight hours before doors opened.
“I was worried because they said first come first serve,” said Campagna. “I wanted to be close as possible and I had no idea what to expect. This is my first rally.”
She wasn’t the only one. Many brought lawn chairs and camped out in Deer District as they waited to be let inside the arena.
Jane Hartman drove in from Madison.
“I want to be part of all of the excitement and support Harris and Walz as they go forward and win,” said Hartman. “We need a change.”
She said the fact that Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz came to Wisconsin while the DNC is in Chicago shows the importance of the Badger State in November’s election.
“I think she knows how important Wisconsin is, and how important the upper Midwest is. It’s the blue wall. It’s important that the Democratic Party takes the blue wall,” said Hartman.
Campagna said the wait was absolutely worth it.
“I’ve been really impressed with Kamala Harris. I’m really excited for her campaign, and to support her for our next president,” she said.
Fiserv Forum looked nearly full as the crowd filtered in on Tuesday night. The arena has a concert capacity of 18,000 people. The venue’s lower bowl alone has 10,000 seats.
