Simpson is a delegate from Kenosha, Wis. She said she is eager to head to Chicago to represent her state on the national stage.

“I think it’s going to be so exciting to see all those people and to be in that room when Vice President Kamala Harris accepts our nomination as our candidate for president,” said Simpson.

Before she headed to the Windy City, Simpson was busy in the Kenosha campaign office.

She and Democratic supporters have been preparing others to canvas for votes as the election season heats up.

“We’re going out all the time canvassing, we’re making phone calls, we’re talking to people, just really putting out a huge effort to get out the vote,” said Simpson.

Simpson said the campaign has felt a surge of support and energy since President Joe Biden announced he would step aside, allowing Harris to lead the ticket as the Democratic presidential candidate.

“We are thrilled with all the enthusiasm that we’ve seen since then,” said Simpson. “We are grateful that President Biden did step aside, but everybody I talked to thinks he is one of the best presidents we’ve ever had. We are just so thankful for him and everything he has done for our country.”

As she looks forward to the convention, Simpson said she is particularly excited about Harris’ candidacy.

She said she believes that the vice president will champion the causes closest to her heart.

“I think that she is definitely going to be there for the regular people, the working people,” said Simpson. “I am going to see some changes, you know, for women and get some of our rights back.”
