President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign marked its best fundraising month in June, bringing in $127 million, the campaign said on Tuesday.

June’s haul includes $38 million raised in the four days following last week’s debate against former President Donald Trump, which has been widely characterized, including by Biden’s own team, as a “bad night” for the incumbent president.

  • June’s haul includes $38 million raised in the four days following last week’s debate against former President Donald Trump, which has been widely characterized by Democrats, including by Biden’s own team, as a “bad night” for the incumbent president
  • The $127 million haul marked a sizable increase from the $85 the Biden team said it raised in May and put his camp’s fundraising number at $264 million in total for the second quarter of the election year; the campaign said it ended June with $240 million in the bank
  • Trump's campaign said later Tuesday that it raised $331 million in the second quarter, outraising Biden overall, but fell short of the Democrat's June total with $111.8 million

The campaign noted $30 million of the money raised in the four days following the debate were from grassroots donations, with nearly half of that coming from first-time donors – something the team has attempted to point to as a sign of support for the president in the wake of his performance on the debate stage in Atlanta.

Thursday, the day of the debate, and Friday, the following day, marked the campaign’s two best grassroots fundraising days since Biden announced his reelection bid, the campaign added.

“In June, Democrats had their best fundraising month to date, and just last week, we had the best grassroots fundraising day of the campaign,” Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement. “These dollars will go to opening offices, hiring staff, and spreading Democrats’ message of hope — all of which will power Joe Biden and Kamala Harris back to the White House.”

The $127 million haul marked a sizable increase from the $85 the Biden team said it raised in May and put his camp’s fundraising number at $264 million in total for the second quarter of the election year. The campaign said it ended June with $240 million in the bank.

“Our Q2 fundraising haul is a testament to the committed and growing base of supporters standing firmly behind the President and Vice President and clear evidence that our voters understand the choice in this election between President Biden fighting for the American people and Donald Trump fighting for himself as a convicted felon,” Biden’s Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

Trump's campaign said later Tuesday that it raised $331 million in the second quarter, outraising Biden overall, but fell short of the Democrat's June total with $111.8 million. Trump and the Republican National Committee said it raised $141 million in May, fueled by a surge in donations after he was found guilty by a New York jury in his hush money trial late last month.

Biden’s campaign had touted its fundraising edge over Trump for months, but the former president’s campaign surpassed the Biden team’s monthly number in April and again in May.

The Biden campaign has criticized Trump for spending money raised on legal expenses as he faces multiple trials, while highlighting that its own money is going toward ad buys and opening campaign offices and hiring staff in battleground states.
