The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado with 80mph winds touched down in Footville. The tornado tracked 22 miles from west of Janesville to Milton.

“I was lucky,” said resident Ray Vierck. “Could have done a lot more damage.”

Ray Vierck was at Menards when the storm hit but was greeted with damage when he got home.

“As we came into town and down our street, it was all blocked off because all of the debris down,” said Vierck. “I checked on my house and my flagpole was down and a few items in the backyard and the neighbor’s trees were down.”

It was when the weather calmed down he said he noticed his roof was damaged.

“Pulled the membrane up off the roof and I stomped that down, but then it ripped around one of the drains what was held securely down,” said Vierck.

Some repairs were made, but now he said he’s looking at a complete roof replacement. While Vierck said it’s a hassle, he’s thankful no one was injured considering he was gone during the storm.

“I’d rather [have] been home,” said Vierck. “My mother and law was here and she lives with us. She’s 90, so she was here during the storm.”
