LAS VEGAS — Super Bowl LVIII is Sunday in Las Vegas. The San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs are trying to become back-to-back Super Bowl champions, something that hasn’t been done in 20 years. The 49ers haven’t won it all since after the 1994 season.

Here are three things to watch in Sunday’s game.

Mahomes magic

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes is putting together quite a resume. He’ll be the first quarterback to start a fourth Super Bowl before reaching 30 years old. He’s already won two, but said this week that Tom Brady’s record of seven Super Bowl wins seems a long way off.

Purdy please

The contrast is 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. He was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Iowa State. The so-called “Mr. Irrelevant.” While some observers say he’s simply a quarterback who benefits from the talent around him, Purdy can quiet those critics if he leads San Francisco to a Super Bowl victory.

Reid’s NFL journey started in Green Bay

The Chiefs are coached by former Packers assistant Andy Reid. He had success in Philadelphia, but could never win a Super Bowl. Now with Kansas City, Reid has a chance to join an exclusive club of coaches with three or more Super Bowl wins. That list includes only Bill Belichick, Chuck Noll, Joe Gibbs and Bill Walsh.

And no, I didn’t forget about Grammy Award-winning Taylor Swift. The CBS telecast will certainly find her cheering on Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
