WAUWATOSA, Wis. — As the dangerous cold weather persists, there are still people who don’t have heat or electricity after Friday’s winter weather.

What You Need To Know

  • We Energies has restored power to more than 255,000 customers

  • The company has more than 600 people working to restore power

  • Crews from across the Midwest are helping get the job done

Brendan Conway with We Energies said they have been working around the clock in conditions that are also dangerous for their crews.

He said the company has already restored power to more than 255,000 customers.

“This maybe the largest storm restoration in company history,” said Conway. “We kept seeing new outages come in because of the heavy wet snow taking down branches and taking down trees.”

We Energies brought in extra workers and equipment from other areas in Wisconsin and states in the Midwest to help get the job done.

“We have more than 600 people just working in the field across mostly southeastern Wisconsin,” said Conway. “Milwaukee and Waukesha County seem to be the hardest hit.”

Conway said he understands how frustrated customers can be without having power in the cold weather, but said that crews are doing their absolute best.

“It has been nonstop effort since the first snowflake fell until today,” said Conway. “We haven’t stopped. It’s been 24 hours. Our crews work 16 hours on. That’s all they’re allowed to then they come right back.”

He anticipates most We Energies customers will have their power back by the end of the day Monday.
