Teagan Thurston comes from a long line of curlers.
“I am a third generation curler, so my grandpa started and then he passed that on to my dad and my uncle,” said Thurston.
She started curling at 8 years old. She began doing it competitively when she got to high school.
“From there I just kept curling in the competitive field and getting on new teams and eventually that led me here,” said Thurston.
Recently, Thurston took first place in the mixed team trials held in Denver, Colorado.
“It was a massive event. It had 23 teams,” said Thurston. “In the final, our opponent played a great game, and we just happened to come out on top.”
The Winter Youth Olympic Games take place in South Korea this January.
Until then, Thurston practices every single day at her local curling club in Poynette.
Her coach Chase Sinnett said her hard work and dedication is exactly what led her to this point.
“She has a lot of time dedicated to practice and training. She is out here almost every day after school,” said Sinnett.
Sinnett went to the Olympic Trials when he was younger. He said he is happy to guide another group of kids into the Youth Olympic Games.
“To be able to coach another group of kids there is very exciting, and it is great to see the progress they have made over the past couple of years,” said Sinnett.
