PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. — Dr. Michael Vineburg is a pharmacist in Port Washington.
He said he always knew he wanted to work in the medical field. It was in high school that he said he realized he wanted to be a pharmacist.
This December will mark one year since Vineburg opened up Port Family Pharmacy.
“I’ve always had a passion for independent pharmacy,” said Vineburg.
Vineburg said he’s able to connect with his patients on a personal level.
“It’s the best way to get to know your patients and show them the kind of care they deserve,” said Vineburg.
It also gives him more time to care for his patients if they have questions or concerns.
“I get to fully meet with those patients and discuss exactly what they’re looking for and be able to find the right thing for them rather than them having to wait in line and them not being able to say more than a few things to the pharmacists,” said Vineburg.
Vineburg said he has a small staff, but they make a great team. He said his pharmacy technicians are the glue to his business. Kyler Ward has been a tech for five years.
“I think the main draw for me is always helping patients,” said Ward. “Whether it’s getting medications they need or finding something at a cheaper price they haven’t been able to afford. I’ve always wanted to help people and even without a higher degree. This is a good way for me to do that.”
While Port Family Pharmacy is new to the area, Vineburg said he would love to grow his business and even expand.
“Supporting your independent pharmacy is going to be helping not only local businesses but expand those services to the community itself,” said Vineburg. “Things that might not be available through Walgreens or CVS or any big chain pharmacy.”
He said he wants to make health care more accessible and easier for his patients in Ozaukee County.
