GREEN BAY, Wis. — A Green Bay Packers super fan celebrated an attendance milestone that started seven years ago.
Justin Sterna takes the term “cheesehead loyalist” to another level. He’s been rooting for the Packers since 2016 at both tailgates and in the stands.
“This is my favorite place, Lambeau. It’s an unbelievable stadium, the fans are great. I might be biased here, but personal opinion,” Sterna said.
The Packers Thursday night game against Detroit marked Sterna’s 100th consecutive game that included both home and road games.
“It’s been spectacular. I wouldn’t change it at all. It’s just been amazing,” Sterna said.
Sterna said he started this streak in 2016 after the Packers won eight consecutive games. That included two playoff games.
He said the dream to see the Packers in the big game continued to snowball and never stopped.
“I was like, you know what, if I want to see a Super Bowl season, I want to make sure I go to every single game home in a way, including the playoffs with that Lombardi trophy coming back to Titletown, that would be a dream come true,” Sterna said.
When Sterna’s not taking selfies at Packers games, he manages a movie theater. He said he keeps a tight schedule and budget to travel.
“I usually wait until closer to kickoff to secure a game day ticket in order to get in, trying to keep the costs and mitigate those costs as much as possible, but I have some amazing friends too,” Sterna said.
Scotty Lapointe is one of those amazing friends who helped Sterna with his quest. Lapointe is a Lions fan. The two met at a game.
“He’s like, ‘hey, man, you got some extra tickets’ and that was Dec. 29, 2018,” Lapointe said.
During his journey, Sterna has not only amassed games but friends as well, such as Philadelphia Eagles fan Matthew Silcox.
“I said, ‘hey, man, Packs playing the Eagles. I know you got this streak going. Let’s go to Philly and see it.’ So I flew from Florida, and I’m not sure what part of the world he was in at that moment, but he said, let’s do it,” Silcox said.
Sterna said following the Packers has not been cheap. He’s spent some big bucks.
“I’d say about $25,000, if anything. At the very most, $50,000,” Sterna said.
So how long will Sterna continue this streak? He said it depends on how well the Packers perform and no matter what happens, Sterna said he’ll continue to bleed green and gold.
