PARIS, Wis. — On Thursday, officials with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo’s office visited a broadband deployment site to observe fiber splicing done by Spectrum technicians.

The event followed Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. to highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s investments in high-speed internet expansion.

The company said it’s making significant investments in rural broadband in Wisconsin to continue to expand access to unserved communities.

Spectrum representatives said they will add another 80 miles of broadband in Kenosha County.

The Commerce Department said it will continue to invest in programs that make the internet available for everyone.

“There’s 8.5 million locations in our country that lack reliable, affordable high-speed internet,” U.S. Secretary of Commerce Senior Advisor, Kevin Gallagher, said. “Projects like this one are connecting homes every single day.”

In June, the Biden-Harris Administration announced Wisconsin will receive more than $1 billion to deploy affordable, reliable high-speed internet service and ensure everyone in Wisconsin has access to the internet. Right now, 253,097 homes and small businesses in Wisconsin lack access to a high-speed internet connection, according to Spectrum.
