LA CROSSE, Wis. — Republicans from across the state made their way to La Crosse over the weekend for the annual three-day 2023 Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention.

Unity among the Republican Party and early voting were key topics many attendees focused on as voters look toward the 2024 presidential election.

Brett Galaszewski is the Midwest Field Manager for Turning Point Solutions, an organization that helps to recruit the next wave of conservative leadership. Galaszewski believes Wisconsin is the key battleground for the 2024 presidential election.

“All eyes are going to be on us,” he said. “We are hosting the Republican National Convention, we are the birthplace of the Republican Party and so we are about to become the center of the political universe.”

Galaszewski said Republicans are sometimes under-represented in the polls and he said the only way to fix that is to start voting.

“We want to help get more young and old and just everyone who might not know to get involved in the Republican Party in the fold,” said Galaszewski. “The Republican Party right now has a turnout problem and we want to help in any way we can.”

While Galaszewski came to the convention to inspire more people to get out and vote, the Gahl family stopped by to learn a little more about politics.

“What we are doing out here is figuring out how we can get in there and fight for life and fight for God,” said Carl Gahl.

Gahl, who is 15, attended the convention with his mother.

While he can not vote yet, he said he is learning as much as he can so when he is of age he can not only cast his vote but also become a politician.

“This country is going to be ours someday, and it is going to be a place where we want to thrive and it is our responsibility from God to steward our country and guide it in the right direction,” he said.
