MADISON, Wis. — A new era of football is underway at Camp Randall Stadium as fans were invited to the "The Launch" event on Saturday hosted by the Wisconsin Badgers.
New head coach Luke Fickell has been hard at work rebuilding the Badgers football team after an up and down 2022 season that left fans worried about the team’s future.
One of the most notable changes coming to the team this season is a shift in the offense.
The Badgers are known for their slow offensive play but new offensive coordinator, Phil Lango, plans to change that and instead focus on air raid principles hoping to put more points on the board and fans in the stands.
Longtime fan Micheal Congemi is very happy with the changes Fickell has been making and has high hopes for the season.
“This year’s team, I think is going to sneak up on a few people who are underestimating them and I think they are going to be a very good team,” said Congemi.
Fans hoped that by bringing in a big name like Luke Fickell, it would help to draw in better players and Congemi said that’s exactly what it did.
“He is doing what he promised to do, he has brought in kids, he is recruiting well, he brought in a great coaching staff and an innovative offensive coordinator,” said Congemi. “When was the last time we had a passing game at Wisconsin?”
Congemi and many fans are very excited to see a shift in the Badgers offense.
He said people’s attention spans are not what they used to be and, by passing the ball more often, it should provide more action for everyone involved.
“It is a passing game in the NFL, it is a passing game in college and if you are in a situation where you are on the twenty yard line and you are down by ten you can’t just run the ball,” said Congemi. “You have to be able to throw the ball down the field and score quickly and that’s what this offense should be able to do.”
The first Badgers game is set for Sept. 2 against Buffalo at Camp Randall Stadium. Many fans like Congemi will be there hoping for a season for the record books.
