MADISON,Wis. – For the first time in three years, Madison’s St. Patrick’s Day parade made its way back to Capital Square.
With marching bands, bagpipe performers and local fire departments in attendance many Madison residents felt like things were finally making a return to normal.
Kimberly Greunke brought her two daughters to the parade for the first time ever.
“Why did we come out? We actually did not know it was going on, we were at the children’s museum,” said Greunke.
Greunke’s family doesn't normally celebrate St. Patrick’s day but this year she was in the area so she decided to introduce her children to some Scottish music and free candy.
‘So you two are here for the candy right?’
“....Ya!”
While the public was excited to watch the parade again, Kristopher O-Higgins was excited to be performing in it.
“Seeing kids doing jigs along the side of the road and it is awesome,” said O-Higgins.
O-Higgins is a bagpipe player for Madison Pipes and Drums and he truly loves playing bagpipes for all occasions.
“Sharing with the people, the presence the bagpipes have, it really kind of engages with the public no matter where you are, people cheer, if you are at a funeral you make people cry, it is just a really emotive instrument,” said O-Higgins.
