GLENDALE, Wis. — Parking is now limited at the Bayshore Town Center after a portion of the parking garage collapsed last week.
Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy is asking customers to be patient while there are fewer parking spots available.
“We don’t have parking on a lot of the main streets around here,” said Kennedy. “So the parking needs to be contained at Bayshore. I know Trader Joes is incredibly busy and the surface lot on the other side is not very big.”
Customer Cameron Paddison is a frequent shopper at Trader Joes and said he had to park a few blocks away because how busy the lot was.
“It’s kind of a mess with the parking structure out of commission,” said Paddison. “It’s normally pretty easy to get around the Trader Joes parking lot. Today, don’t even bother.”
Kennedy is expecting the rebuild of the structure to take some time
“They’re going to redesign, go through approval processes, permitting, building,” said Kennedy. “It’s going to take some months.”
In the meantime, people that have cars stuck in the 2nd and 3rd floors of the garage are able to finally get them with the help of a temporary ramp.
“The temporary they built with essentially gravel so they can get the cars off the second level,” said Kennedy. “That’s entirely in the hands of Bayshore and their engineers. When the time comes that they need to rebuild they will need to get permits from the city and the city will come in and inspect again the part that gets rebuilt.”
