Cindy Lopez owns the beloved bakery with her husband. His parents opened it nearly 50 years ago.

The past couple months haven’t been the easiest between flooding, a broken oven and a death in the family.

But thanks to Emerald City Catering, the bakery was able to reopen.

“I’m so overwhelmed,” said Cindy Lopez. “I was not expecting what we had come in. There’s just no words for something like that. I have a big shout out to Steve from Emerald Catering for helping us and everyone who donated to us. Thank you, thank you.”

After seeing the unfortunate news, the owner of Emerald City Catering started a GoFundMe that has generated thousands of dollars. They also hosted a brunch to benefit the bakery.

It was a must for Jim and Mary Lacharite to attend the fundraiser. They started the Fox Point’s Farmers Market and met the Lopez family in 2005 when they opened up a booth.

“It speaks to how much everybody thinks of them and the wonderful business they’ve had and will continue to have for many years,” said Jim Lacharite.

Cindy Lopez said the future of Lopez Bakery and Restaurant looks bright. She said she’s hopeful one day they’ll be able to return the favor to another business in need.
