MILWAUKEE — Wisconsinites are doing what they can to avoid having to go out in the freezing temperatures during the holiday weekend.

While the ideal winter day may include staying indoors, many people don’t have that option.

Erin Mehlhorn works at Colectivo Coffee. She lives close by and walks to work. She’s planning on layering up and making her walk to work quick.

She’s expecting the weather to keep most people indoors.

“I’m expecting it to be a bit slower,” said Mehlhorn. “Probably not much curbside pickups because the roads might be bad.”

While she’s bracing herself for what the weekend will bring, others like Vicente Janik are also planning ways to get to work. He works at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus library.

“Instead of taking the bus, I might just take my car and bite the bullet and pay the parking charge,” he said.

Aside from work, Janik has no plans to be outdoors, so he’s getting those last-minute holiday errands done.

“I’m actually doing some last minute Christmas shopping,” said Janik.

As the wind picks up and temperatures continue to drop, many Wisconsinites are planning to stay warm and safe.
