MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee-born-and-bred sister duo will perform on Saturday Night Live Dec. 10.

Monique and Chauntee Ross of the SistaStrings will share the stage with musical guest Brandi Carlile and hosts Steve Martin and Martin Short.

“It’s been an incredible year and we don’t take a moment of this for granted,” SistaStrings said in a Facebook post about the duo’s success this year.

Growing up on Milwaukee’s North Side, the sisters’ passion for music started with playing instruments in church. Their love for the craft only grew as they got older.

It wasn’t until 2014 that they formed their duo, SistaStrings, with Chauntee on violin and Monique on cello. Slowly, they began to collaborate with several Milwaukee artists, including American folk singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey.

Their first EP, “Lift,” was released in 2019.

Then, a new chapter began for the sisters.

Relocating to Nashville in 2021, they formed ties with grammy-nominated artist Allison Russell. Now, they’re members of Russell’s touring band, The Rainbow Coalition of the Loving.

This spring and summer they’ll also join Brandi Carlile on her Pink Summer Carnival tour.

However, appearing on SNL and touring with Carlile is only the tip of SistaString’s success in 2022.

Earlier this year, they backed up Russell on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Ellen. They also joined Russell for her tiny desk concert.

In April, they took the stage with Alicia Keys and Carlile for a performance at The Grammys.

SistaStrings also performed with Carlile at Madison Square Garden.

In an Instagram post, the sisters thanked both artists for uplifting them and seeing them.

“Thank you for trusting us with your music and opening your hearts to us. Let’s change the world together,” the post read.

You can catch the sisters in Milwaukee on Jan. 25. They’re performing at 8 p.m. in the Pabst Theater as a part of a tour with Mulvey and Ani DiFranco. Tickets for that event can be found here.
