MILWAUKEE — Shannon King has been working to help at-risk youth get their life back on track through her organization since 2018.
“I work with at-risk teens, many who have an excessive criminal background in Wisconsin. My goal, finding them jobs within 45 days and keeping them off the streets,” said King, CEO of Peace of Heart LLC.
As a life coach, King hosts a variety of workshops that range in topics, from trauma to reckless driving. One workshop she hosts takes place at St. Charles Youth and Family Services in Milwaukee.
“In the workshop, I talk with youth about driving and the dangers of driving reckless, crime prevention, suicide and healthy relationships,” said King.
The youth she works with range in age from 12 to 17 years old. Many of the students look up to King as a mentor and seek advice from her on a daily basis. She is a safe place where youth can go.
In the workshop Spectrum News attended, King helped some youth get jobs before the session was complete.
“I also wanted to do this because it is something going on lately, the Kia Boys and Kia Girls. Let’s see how they can get jobs and be successful and stay out of trouble,” said King. “I want to light a fire under them and see how they can change.”
So the moral of this story? Never give up, said King.
In addition to workshops, King’s organization provides ongoing support, motivational speaking engagements, resources and referrals, and more.
