APPLETON, Wis. — The start of in-person absentee voting brought hundreds to the Office of the City Clerk in Appleton on Tuesday.
Mark and Cynthia Sanders registered to vote and stayed to cast their early ballots.
“It’s convenient,” said Mark Sanders.
Cynthia Sanders said she enjoyed the experience.
“The convenience of coming early and I feel (fewer) people at this time and just it’s the right thing to do. It’s our duty,” said Cynthia.
Voting took place on the sixth floor of Appleton City Hall. That’s where the public will find Kami Lynch, Appleton city clerk. She said day one saw small lines throughout the day.
“It’s a general election inside the City of Appleton,” Lynch said. "We have phenomenal voter turnout, so I’m thinking at least 80% of our registered voters will turn out.”
She said early voting started out smoothly. She expects things to stay that way. Lynch said the start of absentee voting marks the beginning of a busy stretch of weeks.
“This is just kinda the extra crazy time,” Lynch said. “It’s balancing this along with the mailing of the absentee ballots with still getting ready for Election Day, so it’s a lot going on, but I’m happy that now that it’s started it’s running smoothly.”
The Sanders said they are just glad to be done with voting for the general election.
“I think it’s very important and I hope we get a big turnout,” said Cynthia.
“It’s very nice to get it out of the way,” said Mark.
The last day for in-person absentee voting in Appleton is Friday, Nov. 4.
