WAUKESHA, Wis. — Nearly a year after a tragic attack on a community tradition, a jury convicted Darrell Brooks Jr. of killing six people and injuring dozens more after driving through the Waukesha Christmas parade.
Brooks was found guilty of 6 first-degree intentional counts, 61 first-degree recklessly endangering safety counts, 6 hit and run involving death counts, 2 counts of bail jumping and 1 count of battery.
Each homicide charge carries a mandatory life sentence.
Judge Jennifer Dorow said court will enter judgements of conviction and revoke bond.
Dorow plans to bring case in Monday at 1 p.m. to address further scheduling. Parties have to determine how long each side will need for sentencing remarks. Sentencing will not happen Monday.
Jury deliberations began Tuesday night for about 90 minutes before the jury went home for the evening. The jury began at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and reached a verdict at 9:47 a.m. The deliberations took just under 3 hours in total.
As day 18 began, Judge Jennifer Dorow addressed a reddit post that surfaced Tuesday night regarding the case. The post disclosed opinions on the case and the user identified themself as a juror. It is under investigation whether it is indeed a juror, but initial investigations point to it being a prank.
