MADISON, Wis. — For many, the Badgers football season is not going as planned.
Following an immense loss to Ohio State during game four, the Badgers continued their losing streak in game five at home.
Many fans said they feel there need to be some changes made.
“Something is stale, they have to shake it up, whether it is moving on from Chryst, and Jim Leonhard being the next coach, you know, that’s something I hope they are looking at and talking about to light a fire under the program,” said Badgers fan Patrick Doll.
Doll said he would love it if the Badgers were 5-0 this season, but he doesn’t come out to watch them win. He just wants to see them try. Doll said he hasn’t really seen that this season.
“This season has been fun. It is always fun to have a Badgers season, but the overall output has been below what our overall standards are,” said Doll.
On Sept. 28, former Wisconsin basketball player Ben Brust also said something needs to change with the Badgers’ football program.
“We suck! I’m talking to my former teammates about how Purdue, Minnesota [and] Iowa, who stinks, could potentially beat us,” said Brust.
John Thornton, Badgers fan and Madison resident, said if the football team continues to deteriorate, it could have adverse effects on not only the entire college but also the city of Madison.
“Having successful athletes is a recruiting tool and Madison is a great place to be, but people don’t know about it if you are not on the front page of the sports,” said Thornton.
Prior to Saturday’s game against Illinois, Spectrum News spoke with fans outside of the stadium and almost every one of them said it was time to change up the coaching staff.
“It is time for Jim Leonhard to take over,” said Thornton.
Wisconsin is set to face off with Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 8, and if things continue to go the way they have, Badgers fans are in for a rough season.
