SYMCO, Wis.  — It’s hard to miss the big red shed while driving along Wisconsin Highway 22 in Symco, said the man who owns it.

Ray Much said if you pass by without stopping, you’re missing out on quite the experience.

“Makes you feel good,” Much said while starting up one of his many vintage tractors stored in the shed.

He’s been collecting vintage International Harvester tractors for more than 40 years. Much currently has over 30, though he said he hasn’t counted them in a while. All the tractors are in working condition, and Much said he likes to ride them when he has the time.

“It brings back a lot of memories from being on the farm,” he said.

Much said he’s put a lot of work into building his collection and maintaining his tractors.

“Every one of these tractors are not perfect when I buy them, and they need work and I’m not afraid to pick a wrench up, and tie into them, and tear them apart, and fix them and do the best I can,” he said. “I’ve always loved picking up a wrench and working on stuff from a kid on.”

Much said his collection draws a lot of attention. He said people always seem to turn around after passing the shed to see what’s inside. He said he gets a kick out of seeing their reaction to the relics.

“They just get all crazy about it and they think it’s a good collection, and they ask me a lot of questions about it and it makes me feel good,” he said.

Much said he’s just following his passion and hopes other people follow theirs. He said you’ll regret it, if you don’t.

“Better pull that trigger and do it before you’re gone,” Much said. “You ain’t gonna to live forever.”

Much said even after all these years, he’s not done collecting tractors. He said he’ll likely collect them until he drops.
