MADISON, Wis.— A Madison-based artist illustrated her first children’s book. It features an icon: Prince.

Annik Dupaty is the illustrator behind “My Imagined World.

“I have always enjoyed the artwork, but drawing was probably that first love, “she said.

After Prince’s death in April 2016, Dupaty combined both her loves: Art and Prince. Together, with author Yolanda Everett from Atlanta, she was inspired by the life and work of Prince Rogers Nelson, better known as Prince.

That’s when “My Imagined World” came to life.

“The book it’s about using one’s imagination and creating the type of world you would like to have,“ said Dupaty.

She said Prince’s creativity, music and ability to blend all genres resonated with her.

“I have loved Prince forever,” Dupaty said. “He brought so much joy and happiness to my life.”

She said she wants to pass that “joy and happiness” on to kids.

“He believed he has something important to say and important to share. He taught himself so many instruments. He didn’t wait for the world to give him something. He built something himself and gave it to the world,” Dupaty said.

Now, through “My Imagined World,” the illustrator is giving kids the tools to follow in Prince’s footsteps.
