CANTON, Ohio — Scott Kagle and his godson, Tyler Buchholz, made the nearly 600 mile drive from Green Bay, Wis. to Canton, Ohio for one reason.

What You Need To Know

  • LeRoy Butler is a member of the 2022 Class of Pro Football Hall of Famers

  • Butler played for the Green Bay Packers from 1990 to 2001

  • Fans from all over the country made their way to show their support in Canton at his enshrinement ceremony

“[We're] down here to see LeRoy Butler go in," Kagle said.

This was Buchholz’s first time at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but Kagle has made the trip several times.

“This probably marks my seventh or eighth time that I remember," Kagle said. "I was here in 2003 when [James] Lofton went in. We saw him go in. 2016 when Brett Favre went in, 2018 Jerry Kramer, 2013 when Dave Robinson went in — and now here with Butler.”

Soon, Butler’s bronze bust will be on display at the hall, but fans can already check out a locker full of memorabilia inside.

It’s an exciting thing for faithful Green Bay Packers fans— whether they're from Wisconsin, or not.

Tim Parsons, known as the Ultimate Packer Backer, is from Lewisville, Ohio.

“I’m a Packers fan because of Brett Favre. The Gunslinger," Parsons said. "That’s what made me a Packers fan.”

He goes to every enshrinement ceremony — whether a Packers player is going in or not.

And yes, he goes dressed up every time — decked out in green and gold.

He even wears homemade necklaces, trinkets and a cheesehead.

“These little guys are my rivals. I got Detroit, Chicago and Minnesota," Parsons said. "They’re my little voodoo dolls. I made those up."

His cheesehead, though, changes every year.

“I’ve got the Madden bus and the mini Madden, and then I’ve got LeRoy Butler leaping into the hall on the other side," he said of his cheesehead display. "I came up with those, and next year it’ll be something different.”

For Green Bay faithful — decked out in green and gold like Parsons or not —  the trip to see a Packers legend get his recognition is something special.

"It’s amazing. Well deserved. Like Scott said, we’re both season ticket holders, lifetime Packers fans; you’re watching all the games. You support these guys and the team, so, you’re really happy for what they worked hard for," Buchholz said. "They really deserve it.”

For fans of Butler, it was a career worthy of forever recognition can finally be celebrated.
