GREEN BAY, Wis. — On Saturday Lambeau Field welcomed a new crowd.
Fans of two of Europe’s most popular soccer teams invaded Green Bay for a friendly exhibition match between Premier League Champions Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
“Oh, it’s very exciting,” said John Zsoldos, whose family came in from New Jersey to see Manchester City. “The crowd’s going to be tremendous. It’s a great experience being out here at Lambeau Field and watching my own soccer team, being at this historical place… it’s two birds with one stone. It’s great stuff.”
“I think it’s going to be a great game here watching all my favorite players, favorite team with my family, great atmosphere, great stadium,” said Lennon Zsoldos.
Andrew Rife has seen Bayern Munich in Europe before. He said he had never imagined an opportunity to see them in a place like Lambeau Field.
“I had to come to this game, and to see them play Man City is a bonus instead of a MLS team, I’ll take it,” Rife said.
Many international fans visited the area and said they were glad to see so many people.
“Very nice. Town’s great. People are great,” said Shawn Hoffman of Canada.
“It’s crazy, honestly,” said Gracien Jules of Dominica. “Looking at this game, it’s a huge one because you have people coming from every single state, 19 different countries including mine, so, it’s cool. It’s a grand thing. Two of the best teams in the world.”
Manchester City estimated fans attended from 19 different countries plus all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and Washington, D.C.
