MILWAUKEE — If you’re planning on taking I-41/US 45 through the Zoo Interchange this weekend, you may have to find an alternate route.

The section of the freeway between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh is tentatively scheduled to be closed for 54 hours starting Friday, July 29 at 11 p.m. It will re-open on Monday morning, Aug. 1, at 5 a.m. The project was originally scheduled for last weekend, but severe weather forced a delay in the project for the third time.

Construction crews will be working on the placement of new Union Pacific Railroad bridge beams. They will also complete some additional work. In a press release, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation indicated that motorists can take WIS 100 (Mayfair Road) as an alternate route, which will be the primary detour during the closure.

Motorists can find out more information on the project by visiting the Zoo Interchange Project page on the DOT website.
