The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 16 additional COVID-19 deaths on Monday and a significant drop in hospitalizations. 

With 16 deaths reported over the weekend, the state’s total pandemic death toll now stands at 2,382. The latest victims — six men and 10 woman —include nine people 80 or older, six in their 70s and one in their 60s. They came from nine different counties, with three each from Cumberland, Kennebec and Androscoggin counties, two from Hancock County, and one each from Penobscot, Franklin, Washington, Aroostook and Lincoln counties.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID fell from 183 on Friday to 160 Monday. The number in intensive care fell to 20. However, patients needing a ventilator rose to seven.
