COVID-19 hospitalizations continued to climb Wednesday, with 191 people needing in-patient care statewide, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The number of people hospitalized has grown since Sunday, when 162 people were hospitalized. That increased to 167 Monday, 186 Tuesday and 191 Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, 28 people were in critical care and three were on ventilators.

The state reported 537 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths on Wednesday.

Since the pandemic began in Maine, there have been 263,439 cases of coronavirus, with 189,969 confirmed and 73,470 listed as probable. Deaths stand at 2,346.
