MILWAUKEE — Manpreet Singh started a bubble tea shop on Marquette University’s campus while he was a student there in 2019.
He never imagined that his small shop would make its way to a storefront at Bayshore Mall in Glendale.
Serenitea specializes in boba, freshly brewed teas and more.
“The boba scene did originate from Taiwan and slowly over the past decade is when it has gained popularity,” said Singh.
The colorful teas are sure to brighten up your palette, but Singh said being a small business owner comes with its challenges. Despite those challenges, he wanted to bring Boba to the area.
“I saw the Boba hype in a lot of these big cities and college campuses and I just thought it would be something that would be a great addition to Milwaukee itself,” said Singh.
Singh and his family are from India. He was born in New York, but spent most of his life living in Milwaukee. He said his inspiration is his father.
“My dad worked in a grocery setting,” he said. “He was a store manager there and eventually he saved up his money to open up his own store in Milwaukee.”
He said he wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for his father’s sacrifices and the support of both of his parents.
“It’s great to see that I was able to follow in his footsteps,” he said. “Granted, I was blessed to have his help. He worked super hard for me, so I didn’t have to have it as hard as he did.”
Singh said it’s a pleasure to be a part of the revitalization of the Bayshore area. He is hoping to continue being one small piece of the vibrant food and drink scene in the city.
