KEWAUNEE, Wis. — For the last 10 days, it’s been hard for Sergii Aleksieiev to concentrate.

- Other family members in Europe are using the money to buy goods and supplies that are quickly shipped to Ukraine
He’s been worried about friends and family in Ukraine.
“I’m in constant contact with lots of my friends and they are really fighting for Ukraine right now,” he said. “Everytime I check in with them or call them, they don’t have any fear.”
To help, family-owned Wakker Cheese in Kewaunee is donating its retail and online sales to the assist the Ukraine people and military.
“Our Ukrainian Army, our Ukrainian medics they are running out of supplies and many people need shelter,” Aleksieiev said. "Just simple critical supplies, just the simplest ones.”
Aleksieiev said the shop and family — a mix of Dutch and Ukrainian backgrounds — are sending money to family in Europe who are using it to buy needed supplies which are quickly transported into Ukraine.
Jim Langer stopped in Friday to help the drive.
“We have so much to be thankful for in the United States,” he said. “There are people in the rest of the world who have to fight for what we’ve got.”
Aleksieiev said this effort is something he and the family can do from afar to support Ukraine.
“If we can help our people to make their life a little bit easier, it’s our mission,” he said. “It’s very important right now for them — any kind of support.”
Aleksieiev, who moved here seven years ago, said he’s proud to be an American-Ukrainian and of the fight being put up by the people of Ukraine. He’s resolute and doing what he can to help the people fighting for the country where he was born.
“They will stand for the country until the last moment. This country will never fall,” Aleksieiev said.
