MILWAUKEE — Curling clubs from all across the country came together Saturday to celebrate the 100 year anniversary Bonspiel at the Tosa Curling Club.

The curling club has been a part of the Tosa community since 1921. The club played its first game in a shed that was part of Stickney Field Club on Stickney Avenue, just south of where Wauwatosa's City Hall now stands.

Matthew Majewski, of the Tosa Curling Club, said a lot has changed in the last century.

“Over the past 100 years, this sport has drastically changed from the days we were on the River,” Majewski said. “We’re actually one of the older and if not oldest indoor facility with artificial ice in the Midwest.”

Majewski cherishes the bond that is formed among friends and family through the sport and the traditions that are passed down year after year.

Lis Colins, of the Chicago Curling Club, was one of the participants in the weekend tournament. She said she picked up the sport six seasons ago when she was looking for a winter sport to keep her busy. Since starting, she can’t imagine spending her winters any other way.

“It's nice to keep passing those traditions along but also pick up new traditions when you visit other clubs too,” added Collins.
