MILWAUKEE — Acting Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Health Department Commissioner Kirsten Johnson announced they received 500,000 N95 masks to hand out to Milwaukee residents for free.

Milwaukee residents can pick up the N95 masks at three area Health Centers and 13 Milwaukee Public Libraries.

City residents told Spectrum News 1 they are thankful the city is offering these masks for free, which health officials say offer better protection against COVID-19.

“It’s really good that they are giving this resource out," said Milwaukee resident Jalen Ralls-Franklin. "We actually got quite a few in this bag, if I had to guess I would say 10-15 masks. I was only expecting five masks so this was really good."

Johnson announced that the state was providing all of the N95s to Milwaukee. The city is expected to get another 500,000 masks Wednesday.

Residents can get up to 20 N95 masks.
