MADISON, Wis––– At the Dane County Regional Airport, it's beginning to look, feel, and sound a lot more like Christmas.
Wisconsin musicians Charlene Adzima and Kara Rogers add Irish tradition into the holiday atmosphere. They are part of the Lillies of the Midwest, a trio of Irish traditional musicians in Madison.
"All the time we spent during the pandemic, getting our music together and get having a chance to come out and play is a lot of fun," said Rogers.
The Lillies of the Midwest is one of many local musicians hired by the Dane County Regional Airport to perform and help ease the anxiety that many travelers are feeling this time of year.
"We are excited to pay the musicians for the gig. Especially professional musicians who have had a really hard time getting gigs lately because of the pandemic. We thought this was a perfect opportunity," said Michael Riechers, director of marketing & communications at Dane County Regional Airport.
Music is bringing smiles to performers and travelers alike.
Jessica Doud is heading to Utah to see her family with her 12-week-old puppy named Bean.
"It makes it a lot more calming to hear music at the airport. I've got a long wait before my flight. It's my first time traveling in a while so it's nice," said Doud.
Those serene tunes are a gift all their own.
"It's nice to get out and perform like we used to," said Adzima.
Through their music, the Lillies of the Midwest are helping to brighten up the mood at the airport during another pandemic travel holiday season.
