MILWAUKEE — It’s holiday break for most families, and if you’re looking for a way to spend it with your kids, you can join many other families at the Milwaukee Public Museum. The museum will be open on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
There are many fun exhibits to explore, like the fan-favorite Puelicher Butterfly Wing.
Jon Bertolas, butterfly wing supervisor, said this is the perfect place to escape the Wisconsin winter and get a bit of a tropical experience.
“Its a very immersive exhibit,” said Bertolas. “You can enjoy butterflies when butterflies are certainly not outside in Wisconsin winters.”
Among the many visitors was father of two, Daniel Murray. He said he recently moved to Milwaukee from California with his family. He said spending the day at the museum was a perfect way to spend time with his daughters before they head back to the classroom.
“Christmas has died down and now it’s time to explore Milwaukee,” said Murray.
Murray’s daughter Simone said she’s been adjusting to the cold Wisconsin weather and is happy to get a warm tropical feel at the butterfly exhibit. She said there’s something magical about butterflies.
“Once they open their wings it’s like super shiny or a rainbow on the inside,” she said.
The museum is also currently hosting the international traveling exhibit called Voyage Into the deep. It’s an interactive deep-sea submarine adventure for kids ages 2 to 10, which tells a story of the underwater exploration and adventure based on Jules Verne's classic novel, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."
